Jean Gillespie

The projects here have accrued over the last few years, when Jean’s work shifted from being purely visual to include poetry and sound. Looking through a different lens at the qualities of poetics through sound or silence has let her re-evaluate how feelings can be conveyed and this is now shaping more of her work.

The projects themselves were produced in response to being accepted for a solo exhibition in Kyoto, Japan and since then have continued to be a thread within ongoing work. The landscape is marked by processes, materials and energies we often do not recognise. What is largely ignored or overlooked then becomes fertile ground for the imagination and for thinking about our impact upon nature. Collecting materials and ephemera from sites and trying new ways to process them has led to different ways of engaging with a project.
